(eap) Therme Erding, not far from Munich in the south of Germany, opened its doors for the first time on 3 October 1999. With 700,000 visitors in its first year, the thermal spa with its South Seas flair enjoyed great popularity right from the start. The spa complex has continued to develop thanks to numerous investments. In 2007, for example, the opening of the “Galaxy Erding” slide world attracted young people, families and slide fans as a new target group. Today, visitors can enjoy 19 indoor and 9 outdoor slides – the latest being the “Big Bang” slide (again from Wiegand Waterrides), which opened last year (see our cover story in EAP 1/2023). In contrast, the sauna landscape, which includes 35 saunas and steam baths, continues to offer soothing tranquillity. In addition, Therme Erding offers more than 100 event days every year, as well as numerous daily infusion and wellness activities. “Because we sense and create today what our guests will want tomorrow, we are the market leader in our sector,” highlights Therme Erding owner Jörg Wund.

The success of the spa destination is accompanied by an important function as an economic engine for the town of Erding. With more than 600 employees (1,000 with partner companies), the spa provides numerous jobs. The hotel industry, especially the 18 partner hotels, benefits from the high number of overnight stays, which has risen from 150,000 in 1999 to over 550,000 today. Last year, Therme Erding welcomed its 30 millionth guest and celebrated its most successful year ever. “Our aim is to continue to develop the high standard and quality and to exceed the expectations of our guests again and again,” promises Wund.

To mark the 25th anniversary of the spa, a press conference was held yesterday at which Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder, Minister of State Ulrike Scharf and CSU Parliamentary Group Leader Klaus Holetschek found words of praise for the spa. While Holetschek paid tribute to the passed away spa founder Josef Wund, Scharf emphasised the spa as an economic factor and, as Minister for Social Affairs, was particularly pleased about the 1,000 versatile jobs. ■
