Swarovski Kristallwelten Celebrate Anniversary with New Chamber of Wonder

(eap) The Swarovski Kristallwelten (Engl.: Swarovski Crystal Worlds) in Wattens, Austria, are celebrating their 30^th anniversary this year with the opening of a new “Wunderkammer” (Chamber of Wonder) and a variety of events. From May 8, 2025, visitors will be able to discover the new Chamber of Wonder, designed by Japanese installation and performance artist Chiharu Shiota. Another two new Chambers of Wonder, created by electronic artist Rafael Lozano-Hemmer, have just been opened at the end of last year and attracted a great deal of interest: “From Mexico to the UK, France and Greece to German-speaking countries, the media response to the ‘Pulse Voronoi’ and ‘Kristallstimmen’ (Crystal Voices) installations was very positive,” concludes Stefan Isser, Managing Director of Swarovski Kristallwelten.

Swarovski Crystal Worlds have been delighting young and old for 30 years now. “Last year, we welcomed our 17 millionth guest – who have been coming to Swarovski Crystal Worlds from all over the world since 1995 – with a family from Bavaria,” explains Isser. “The fact that we have now been able to attract Japanese artist Chiharu Shiota fills us with pride. We are looking forward to her installation in texture and color, which will be tailored to the location and the people who meet here,” says Isser. Chiharu Shiota has exhibited her art worldwide, including at the Gropius Bau in Berlin and the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles. In last year’s Capital of Culture Bad Ischl (Austria), the Japanese artist designed an exhibition in the concentration camp memorial gallery in Ebensee.

In addition to the new Chamber of Wonder, visitors can look forward to various events this year. These include a big Easter egg hunt in April, a colourful supporting program around the 30^th birthday at Whitsun as well as a new edition of the Halloween festival in autumn. The popular Roncalli Circus Theater is also returning to Wattens. From July 11 to August 24, 2025, the outdoor area of Swarovski Crystal Worlds will be transformed into a circus ring for the Roncalli artists. ■
