Switzerland: Whisky Manufacturer to Open Distillery 3,303 Metres Above Sea Level

The whisky manufacturer ORMA, founded in Switzerland in 2010 by the two entrepreneurs Rinaldo Willy and Pascal Mittner, recently announced the opening of the – according to the company –  “world’s highest whisky distillery.“ As of October 10th, visitors to the mountain station Corvatsch 3303, which is located on 3,303 metres above sea level on the Piz Corvatsch mountain (total height of 3,451 metres), will be able to take a look behind the scenes of whisky production. With a view over the Oberengadin high valley, guests will be able to book guided tours or tastings for up to 16 persons on Fridays and Saturdays.

“The location of the new distillery is spectacular and a special work environment: In our back we have the glacier, the Bernina massif with the Biancograt, to our feets we have the unique Oberengadiner seascape. In the midst of this surrounding we aim at creating unique moments and experiences,“ explains Pascal Mittner. His partner Rinaldo Willy adds: “This project is supposed to be a major project, which is planned to emerge throughout the borders and will highlight Switzerland as a whisky nation.
