TX/USA: SXSW Presents the Mummy Zero Gravity VR Experience

At this year’s South by Southwest (SXSW), a festival for music, film and interactive media annually taking place in Austin/Texas, the cinematic VR theater experience on the world’s first fully motion-based VR simulator “Voyager” – “The Mummy Zero Gravity Experience” – is presented to visitors.

Positron, a company founded in 2014 in Los Angeles, presented its motion-based simulator chair at Sundance Film Festival in Park City/Ohio earlier this year to demonstrate its state-of-the-art technology. All motions are organically connected to the storytelling, avoiding sickness caused by a short lag in time between physical motion and the perceived environment. “The Mummy” is the first cinematic VR movie (created by IMAX and Universal) which visitors can experience on one of the 20 Voyager units at SXSW. Equipped with Oculus Rift headsets, “The Mummy” transports them into a virtual world, including a free fall experience. The festival starts today and ends on Tuesday, March 14th this year. From June 9th, 2017, guests can experience “The Mummy” in theaters worldwide.

Our upcoming EAP issue, which is being published on May 2nd, will feature a special on virtual reality and the possibilities/limitations of VR applications in the leisure industry. (eap)
