The Netherlands: Colorful Animal Lighting at Holland’s Royal Burgers’ Zoo
To attract more visitors to the Royal Burgers’ Zoo in the Dutch city of Arnhem during the cold winter months, the zoo has added the cheerful colors of “Burgers’ Light”. Over one hundred animal figures now illuminate the walkways running along the animal enclosures for zoo visitors in the evening, both inside and out.
The figures are larger-than-life replicas of the animals housed in the zoo. They include a ten meter long chameleon and four meter meerkats designed by the Dutch company ShowLine and manufactured in India. Some of the colorfully lit animal figures such as lizards, butterflies, crabs and various mammals are also references to the new roofed mangrove that the zoo is set to open this summer as a new home for numerous birds, fish and turtles. According to the Burgers’ Zoo, this third run of the winter lighting route usually draws around ten thousand more visitors. (eap)
