(eap) Since Saturday, visitors to Plopsa Coo can now experience the “Smurfs” and their very own attraction at the Belgian amusement park. With “De Smurfer”, a completely revamped Vekoma roller coaster has been redesigned and adapted to the Smurfs look, including the waiting area, the station of the ride and its vehicles. On a length of 570 meters and a height of 15 meters, passengers will from now on whiz through the magical Smurf village and past Gargamel’s castle. According to official figures, the cost of the redesign project amounts to 1.2 million euros.

To mark this year’s 65th birthday of the Smurfs, an exhibition presenting photos and fun facts about the Smurfs was opened alongside the roller coaster and will still be open to visitors in the park for a while. “The Smurfs are extremely popular across generations. Therefore, it was obvious for us to integrate them into Plopsa Coo, in close cooperation with IMPS, the worldwide licensor of the Smurfs,” says Plopsa Group Interim CEO Koen Clement. ■
