Tierpark Hagenbeck Starts 2025 with New Managing Directors

(eap) At the turn of the year 2024 the management at Tierpark Hagenbeck in Hamburg has also changed. The previous Zoological Director PD Dr Guido Westhoff and the former long-standing Zoo Inspector Walter Wolters now form the new dual leadership team. The duo succeeds Dr Dirk Albrecht, who has taken his well-deserved retirement. Dr Albrecht took over the zoo after several years of shareholder disagreement and succeeded in leading the zoo through difficult times together with the owners, with the Covid-19 crisis posing a particular challenge.
Despite all hurdles, the former sole Managing Director was able to successfully initiate new structures and modernisations as well as more than 40 small and large construction projects together with his zoo team. “I am particularly proud of the plans for new major projects such as the renovation of the historic gate, a new giraffe enclosure and a new modern depot building. The owners and my employees have given me impressive support,” says Albrecht. ■
