Tourism Record for Vienna
Vienna was one of Europe’s most popular tourism destinations of 2005. With 8.8 million overnight stays, the 2004 record was increased by four per cent. The Viennese tourism economy has thus set a new record for the third time in a row, getting one step closer to its proclaimed goal of ten million overnight stays in 2010. Front-runner of the growth rates are tourists from Asia’s Arabian countries, whose share increased by an amazing 67 per cent. To continue this trend, the Internet website of “Vienna Tourism” will be available in Arabic this spring, in addition to its other 13 languages. Tourism in Vienna now provides employment for 55,000 people. (eap)
