Located around 60 kilometers south of Berlin guests can find the Tropical Islands resort, which offers them an exotic short vacation all year round. Tropical Islands announced today to expand the resort by a new hotel complex, which will dock onto the existing hall. On behalf of its parent company Parques Reunidos, Tropical Islands is working with Volumetric Building Companies (VBC), a company specializing in volumetric construction methods. The planned hotel will be realized under the working title “Attached Lodge II” and marks the beginning of the cooperation between the two companies. The new 25-million-euro complex is scheduled for completion next year at the latest, adding 150 rooms to the resort’s overnight offerings.

“With Volumetric Building Companies, we have been able to gain a very experienced partner in modular construction. Together, we will create the best technical and commercial conditions for our first project,” says Wouter Dekkers, Corporate Development Director at Parques Reunidos, about the cooperation.

The issue of sustainability is particularly important to those involved in the project. According to the planning parties, this is precisely why the VBC technology was chosen, as it is more environmentally friendly than other construction methods. As it’s typical for modular construction, many of the modules are delivered ready-made, which is said to lead to fewer transport routes and less waste compared to traditional construction methods. In addition, the CO2 balance of the steel used is said to be lower than that of concrete. (eap)
