UAE: New Record Zipline in Ras Al Khaimah to Draw Tourists

Today, the new “Jebel Jais Flight: The World’s Longest Zipline” facility opened in the Ras Al Khaimah emirate east of Dubai, which with a track length of 2.83 kilometers is currently the world’s longest zipline attraction, according to the Guinness World Records. Located at a height of 1,680 meters above sea level on Jebel Jais mountain, adrenalin junkies start their flight adventure in a suspended lying position to rush above the chasms like an action hero. Guests finish the first flight section on a suspended landing platform before they are transferred to a second line, finally leading to the ground.

“It [the zipline] actually comprises two main zipline cables, allowing friends and family members to experience and race together, adding to the fun and competitiveness of the facility. […] While the time and speed they complete the flight in is dependent on weight and weather conditions, the whole experience is expected to last around two to three minutes, with top speeds reaching between 120 and 150 km/h. We anticipate the attraction accommodating a rider every five minutes on the two ziplines, equating to approx. 200 people per day, and around 100,000 per year,” explained J. Jorge, CEO of Toro Verde Ras Al Khaimah, operator of the zipline facility. “We also believe given its location in Jebel Jais, which is traditionally ten degrees cooler than average UAE temperatures, we can operate during the summer months,” added Jorge.

There are no age restrictions for “pilots”, but a minimum weight requirement of 45 kg and a height of 1.2 meters. The price per flight is approx. 142 EUR (650 AED).

With the opening of this new record zipline, the emirate sets another milestone on its way towards becoming an international tourism hub. In the shadow of Dubai and Abu Dhabi, Ras Al Khaimah currently mainly attracts bathing vacationers. It also seeks to draw high numbers of adventure and activity tourists in the future. (eap)
