UK: Alton Towers Reveals Official Name of its New Wooden Coaster

Yesterday, British Alton Towers Resort has revealed the name of its latest rollercoaster project “Secret Weapon 8” (SW8): the new wooden coaster from Great Coasters International, which is set to be inaugurated in spring this year, will be named “Wicker Man”. Following a Celtic tradition of burning an oversized figure made of wickerwork as sacrificial offering, a just under 18 meter high wicker man will be the eye-catcher of the new ride, visible from far away. The 618 meter long track will rush through the figure three times. For additional ride thrill the figure will burst into flames.
