UK: Drayton Manor Zoo Unveils Three New Animal Enclosures
Drayton Manor not only offers over 100 attraction at its theme park but also offers visitors a 15 hectare-large zoo, where three new animal enclosures have been under development during the months of closure. A new home for Radiated tortoise was developed as part of the “Raptile House“. To offer the animals a species-appropriate enclosure, rocks and plants which originate in South Madagascar, where Radiated tortoise are endemic, were placed in their new home. “We have gone to great efforts to ensure we replicate our animals’ native surroundings and are proud to support the Turtle Survival Alliance who work tirelessly to save Radiated tortoise and other species around the world,“ explains Chris Mitchell, Head of Zoo Operations at Drayton Manor Park.
An all-new “African Aviary“ will be home to colorful bird from Southern and Eastern Africa as well, also showcasing 30 species of wild plants, which will blossom during summer season. Additionally, the meerkat enclosure has been enlarged to offer the animals more sand for digging. “We have paid careful attention to the needs of our animals, whilst ensuring we offer our guests the best visitor experience possible by creating better viewing and seating areas and opportunities to learn about the animals […],“ Mitchell adds.
