UK: Major Redesign of “Megafobia” Wooden Coaster at Oakwood Theme Park in Good Progress
At the Welsh Oakwood Theme Park, which is operated by Aspro Parks, the modernization work on its popular “Megafobia” wooden coaster, which was opened in 1996, is going according to plan – since recently, the team of the US-American Gravity Group, which was commissioned with the modernization of the “Woodie”, has been on site and is currently leading the project, which is valued at some two million USD, into its next phase.
Specifically, comprehensive retrack works on the coaster are underway: The first two drops will be equipped with the American manufacturer’s “Vertical Engineered Track”. In addition, both drops will receive a new profile – the first will be steeper than before once the modernization work is completed. Among other things, the penultimate curve in the roller coaster layout will also evoke a different ride experience for guests in the future. Megafobia is scheduled to go back into operation in early May this year – provided that the required materials continue to be delivered on time.
The European Coaster Club enthusiastically anticipates the new ride experience: “It’s fantastic news that the much loved Megafobia is being given such a significant upgrade to become an even more thrilling and exciting wooden coaster that our members are already hyped to ride this summer on our annual club visit! The Gravity Group have a global reputation for upgrading wooden coasters and are well known for making the best even better. You can bet families and of course us coaster enthusiasts will love Megafobia 2.0!” (eap)
