UK: Merlin and Coca-Cola Aim to Encourage Guests to Recycle with Exclusive Offers

Some days ago, British leisure facilities operator Merlin Entertainments and Coca-Cola Great Britain announced to extend their partnership by offering guests new exclusive prizes in the scope of the “Plastic for Prizes” marketing initiative launched a few years ago. Guests are now being offered the chance to win exclusive leisure experiences for returning used plastic bottles to designated Coca-Cola reverse vending machines at participating Merlin attractions. Consumers have the chance to win VIP marine and animal conservation focused experiences in connection with the SEA LIFE Trust, the Chessington Conservation Fund and the Shark Trust.

Over 100,000 plastic bottles have already been collected and recycled by Merlin since the launch of the marketing campaign in 2018. A total of 22 such reverse vending machines, which allow guests to recycle any 500ml plastic bottle, can now be found across nine Merlin attractions across the UK. Participating leisure destinations include Alton Towers Resort, Thorpe Park Resort, Chessington World of Adventures Resort, and the LEGOLAND® Windsor Resort. New additions include Warwick Castle Resort, the SEA LIFE aquariums in London, Brighton and Blackpool, and the LEGOLAND Discovery Centre Birmingham. The special offer, which closes on 30th September 2022, is part of Coca-Cola’s sustainable packaging strategy “World Without Waste”, which now includes 100 percent recycled PET plastic bottles (rPET).
