USA: Cedar Fair Reveals Plans for Esports Arena in Sandusky
Cedar Fair Entertainment recently announced its development plans for an “Esports Arena“ in Sandusky, Ohio, where the group already operates the Cedar Point amusement park and the Cedar Point Sports Center. The new arena will be an event location for e-sports and is planned to host up to 1,500 spectators.
“Our long-term strategy is focused on delivering an immersive entertainment experience that differentiates our parks and makes our guests want to come back again and again. The opening of our Cedar Point Sports Center in 2017 was consistent with this strategy and has proven to be enormously popular with amateur sports teams and other large groups. Given the booming popularity of e-sports, we believe there is an opportunity to tap into the growing appetite for that form of entertainment and package it with all that Cedar Point has to offer,“ comments Richard A. Zimmerman, President and CEO of Cedar Fair.
For the development of the Esports Arena, Cedar Fair partnered with Esports Development Co. LLC, to create the 28 million US dollar project (approx. 23.6 million Euros). Preliminary development plans for the facility were already submitted to the City of Sandusky Planning Commission for review. The arena will also be designed to host concerts and other youth events. The first floor will also feature a 200-station gaming hub. If the development plan will be approved, Cedar Point schedules the construction start before the end of this year with a targeted opening in the first half of 2023. (eap)
