USA: IAAPA Releases Official Statement on Planned IAAPA Expo Europe in Barcelona

After the German Association of Amusement Machinery & Accessory Manufacturers (VDV) had released an open letter to IAAPA (International Association of Amusement Parks & Attractions) this week (cf. EAP news of 29 July 2021) to demand clarification regarding trade fair events and in particular to question the status of IAAPA Expo Europe in Barcelona planned for the end of September, IAAPA reacted promptly.

“ IAAPA, the global association for the attractions industry, is disappointed by the German Association of Amusement Machinery & Accessory Manufacturers (VDV)’s open letter questioning the status of IAAPA Expo Europe.

As a member-driven association, IAAPA is governed by various member committees. In preparing and planning for IAAPA Expo Europe 2021, the IAAPA EMEA Manufacturer and Supplier Subcommittee, the IAAPA EMEA Advisory Committee, and the IAAPA Board of Directors worked together to create a safe, successful event in Barcelona, Spain that will bring the attractions industry together to focus on recovery. Several members of these committees are also members of the VDV. To bring IAAPA Expo Europe together, IAAPA also partnered with facility operators and members across the region to understand their interest and ability to attend the Expo. We have received positive response and to date, pre-registration buyer numbers are on par with IAAPA Expo Europe 2019, which was held in Paris, France.

IAAPA has been working closely with local health authorities, the Fira Barcelona, and industry leaders to develop a health, security, and safety program to ensure a successful event. The IAAPA EMEA team continues to visit the Fira, communicate with all locations and partners involved with IAAPA Expo Europe, and update plans accordingly. IAAPA is monitoring the ongoing impact of the global pandemic, current travel restrictions and operations protocol. We are in constant conversation with members – exhibitors and attendees – and provide regular updates, as well as address individual concerns. IAAPA members and Expo exhibitors are encouraged to contact the IAAPA EMEA Team directly with any questions regarding their participation.

IAAPA looks forward to hosting IAAPA Expo Europe 2021 in Barcelona from 27-30 September.“
