USA: Kennywood’s “Kangaroo“ Carousel Classic Receives Major Refurbishment
Back in 1962, the “Kangaroo“ ride was opened at Kennywood park in Pittsburgh – developer John Norman Bartlett called the attraction type a “Flying coaster“ at that time. Last year, the closure of the ride was announced, but now around 60 years after its inauguration, the carousel is to shine again in new splendour as of the 2022 season. In cooperation with Premier Rides, Kangaroo is undergoing a complete refurbishment and will receive new LED lighting, new vibrant colours and a new operating system to ensure fun for the next 60 years.
“Kangaroo is a one-of-a-kind ride that’s perfect for a one-of-a-kind park like Kennywood. We heard our guests ask for its return, and we are excited to bring the last ride of its kind in the world back, better than ever,” said Mark Pauls, General Manager of Kennywood. “Our goal is to update Kangaroo, but more importantly, ensure we preserve the longstanding history of this timeless ride. By modernizing the Kangaroo, we can provide many more generations of Kennywood fans the opportunity to happily hop aboard for decades to come,” added Jim Seay, Premier Rides President. (eap)
