USA: Mardi Gras Sets Sail Including BOLT Coaster
In December 2018, Carnival Cruise Line and Maurer Rides announced the construction of the very first roller coaster on deck of a cruise ship, namely on the all-new “Mardi Gras“ (cf. EAP news f. 14 Dec 2018). Around one year later both companies presented the motorcycle-like wagons for “BOLT™: Ultimate Sea Coaster™“ during the IAAPA Expo Orlando. Maurer pre-built the coaster on the company‘s site in Munich and finished the construction at Meyer shipyard in Turku, Finland. The BOLT coaster was installed on the upper deck of the ship on 57 meter above sea level.
After a mandatory break of several months at the harbour of Barcelona, the Mardi Grad arrived at its home port Port Canaveral last month and left for its maiden voyage on July 31st. So board guests can now enjoy the very first roller coaster on the high seas with Spike® drive technology. The driver of the two-seat motorcycle wagon is able to accelerate up to a speed of 60 km/h and experience drops, dips and curves on the 220-meter-long track while enjoying the ocean view. (eap)
