USA: New Adventure Golf Course Expands Touristic Offer in Medora
The small town of Medora, located in the West of North Dakota, is situated at the entrance to the 285 square kilometre-large Theodore Roosevelt National Park, which transformed the city into a tourist destination over the last years. To enhance the existing tourist offerings, the Adventure Golf & Sports (AGS) company was commissioned with the development of a new themed miniature golf course. The attraction consists of two new nine hole courses, which replace the former 50-year-old 18 hole “Little Bully Pulpit“ course, but the name is still standing.
The first nine holes were developed on the old 18-hole course, but the second nine holes were constructed across the street into a Badland hill. “Our goal was to have it look like the miniature golf holes were just dropped into the natural badlands terrain of the hill,” says Kinley Slauter, who was tasked with overseeing the design and construction of the new miniature golf course for the Medora Foundation. Most new obstacles and elements of the “Little Bully Pulpit“ miniature course are inspired by the region and refer to things such as the national park, native Indian culture, bisons as well as early wagon and railroad transportation.
Scott Lundmark, President of AGS, comments: “We were very pleased to be part of this project. Medora is a special place in this country and, while it was challenging to build a course on a hillside with a number of soil, water drainage and concrete build issues, our team made it happen. In fact, since we were working during the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, there was a period where our crew never left the construction site or the nearby motel rooms where they boarded. Food was brought to them.” (eap)
