USA: RiseNY – New Flying Theater Attraction at Times Square Now Open
In the heart of New York City (160 West 45th Street), the new stand-alone flying theater RiseNY can now be experienced – the first attraction of its kind in the metropolis. Technically, the theater is an “m-Ride” system from Brogent with a total of 46 seats, divided over three levels. Sitting in their seats, guests are moved into the 180-degree projection dome so that their feet dangle freely in the air. The 8K film, produced by Ric Burns and James Sanders, then begins, with the story starting in the subway station at New York City Hall in 1904, followed by a bird’s eye view of the architectural and historical highlights of the “Big Apple” – the experience ends with a ride in a modern subway car that stops right at the new Times Square attraction. Full motion seats move to match the “flying maneuvers”, and special effects such as wind, fog and scent enhance the immersion.
The Flying Theater experience is complemented by galleries on seven different themes: Finance, Skyline, TV/Radio, Fashion, Music, Broadway and Film. On display are historical artifacts, memorabilia and other fun and engaging displays. The overall experience was developed and produced by Running Subway (a New York-based entertainment production company) in collaboration with cultural institutions, Broadway shows and individuals who serve as co-curators of the galleries. James Sanna, President & CEO of Running Subway, remembers: “I was inspired after riding Soarin’ Over California in Disneyland with my son, and always thought, wouldn’t it be amazing to fly over and around NYC? And now, over a decade later, we’ve been able to tap into the latest technology and advancements to create an experience unique to the city I love.” (eap)
