USA: Six Flags to Take Over Operation of Magic Waters Waterpark
The Board of Commissioners of the Rockford Park District – a civil society founded in 1909 that today owns and operates 179 (sports-)parks and leisure facilities in Illinois, has recently approved a lease agreement allowing the Six Flags Entertainment Corporation to take over operation of Cherry Valley-based Magic Waters Waterpark in spring of 2019. The agreement is expected to be signed in the near future. Covering a site of more than 17 hectares (43 acres), Magic Waters offers visitors an array of tube and body slides, a children’s play area, a 365-meter (1,200 feet) lazy river and a wave pool.
“[…] Partnering with Six Flags means great things for our community and will enhance the experience for local families looking for affordable family fun. By having the Six Flags brand in this market, we expect a major increase in tourism, which will have significant economic impact for our community. Six Flags will continue to make capital investments in the waterpark, which frees up District resources to invest in our communities’ priorities such as parks, playgrounds, and youth,” commented Jay Sandine, Rockford Park District Executive Director.
Hank Salemi, President of Six Flags Great America, added: “We are excited about the prospect of welcoming Magic Waters to the Six Flags family of parks. This is a fantastic property that complements our theme and waterpark in Gurnee […]. We look forward to sharing the thrill of Six Flags with guests of all ages in this important market.” (eap)
