USA: Walt Disney World Resort Earmarks Land for Affordable Housing Development
As Lake Buena Vista-located Walt Disney World Resort announced, it will earmark a nearly 80-acre-large land (approx. 32.4 hectares) to support a new development for affordable housing in the southwest of the Orange County. The project is still in the early stages of development and no concrete details can be given yet, but around 1,300 residential units are to be built on the site, in the immediate vicinity of schools and the Flamingo Crossing Town Centre, a retail and dining centre. The affordable housing units will be made available to applicants from the general public and Disney cast members. The development will be available for qualifying applicants from the general public, including Disney cast members.
“We are invested in working together with our community to solve complex issues. The lack of affordable housing is affecting many people across our country, including right here in Central Florida. With this initiative, we’re lending a hand to make a real and meaningful impact in our community by tapping into the best of our company’s strengths. This is the right opportunity and the right time to take action,” said Jeff Vahle, president of Walt Disney World Resort.
With the “Buena Esperanza“ and the “Finamore Project“, Walt Disney World Resort already supports two projects for affordable living, which e.g. supports veterans, homeless people or people with mental health issues with apartments. (eap)
