USA/Mexico: The Dolphin Company Takes over Operation of Miami Seaquarium
Miami Seaquarium, a visitor aquarium that opened in 1955 and is currently operated by Palace Entertainment (the U.S. subsidiary of Spain’s Parques Reunidos group), is to be transferred to the portfolio of Mexican operator group The Dolphin Company at the end of this year. The agreement is subject to certain conditions related to the assignment of licenses, permits and contracts, which are expected to be satisfied before the end of the year.
“We are proud to announce the addition of the Miami Seaquarium to our more than 30 parks and attractions, and we are pleased to have the opportunity to share our experience of more than 25 years in caring for marine mammals, with the most popular attraction in South Florida. We look forward to welcoming Miami Seaquarium collaborators, wildlife and visitors to our family soon,” says Eduardo Albor, CEO of The Dolphin Company.
John Reilly, COO of Palace Entertainment, shares “The Dolphin Company's interest in the Miami Seaquarium, along with its commitment to preserving and protecting the environment and marine fauna, make it the ideal operator to manage this beautiful marine park. Our previous experience with The Dolphin Company gives us full confidence that you will extend your best practices to our aquarium and ensure that all species, especially marine mammals, receive the best care and attention as they do in their habitats around the world.”
The Miami Seaquarium, which specializes in marine mammals and their conservation, focuses on a wide range of educational programs for its guests and is one of the most popular destinations in South Florida. Once acquired, the facility will be the Dolphin Company’s fourth location in Florida. In total, the group operates more than 30 leisure facilities in eight countries and on three continents, particularly marine zoos and water parks. In Europe, the Dolphin Company owns the three Italian facilities Zoomarine (Rome), Aquafelix (Civitavecchia) and Acquajoss (Conselice). (eap)
