USA/Spain: Parques Reunidos Announced First “Lionsgate Entertainment City“ Indoor Center for the US
As announced by Spain’s Parques Reunidos operating group this past Wednesday, the first “Lionsgate Entertainment City”-branded indoor entertainment center in the US will be developed at Times Square in New York City. Parques Reunidos’ new business model of year-round open indoor centers is based on a partnership with Lionsgate – the media company brings the rights of use of popular TV series and movie IP brands such as “The Hunger Games” and “Now You See Me” (cf. EAP news from November 24th, 2016).
The 25 million Euro (approx. 30 million US-Dollar) planned “Lionsgate Entertainment City” for Times Square will feature 13 signature attractions that utilize digital technology and virtual reality to immerse teenagers and young adults into their favorite Lionsgate productions. Besides highly frequented urban locations (Times Square receives over 50 million visitors a year), shopping malls are also interesting sites for the indoor entertainment center concept: In Europe, Parques Reunidos had already concluded agreements with retail complexes such as intu Lakeside in London and two Xanadú shopping malls in Madrid back in 2016.
