Vienna Sightseeing Relies on Electric Panorama Trains in Schönbrunn
(eap ) Schönbrunn Palace Park, which covers around 160 hectares and is also home to Schönbrunn Zoo as one of its main attractions, is a popular recreational destination for the residents of Vienna and a “must-see” for tourists. A well-known postcard motif is the magnificent Gloriette on the hilltop in the palace park, which also has numerous other highlights to offer...
To make these more accessible in a comfortable way, especially for people with limited mobility (strollers, wheelchairs, etc.), Vienna Sightseeing recently introduced two new electric panoramic trains that stop at a total of nine stations. The local tourism company opted for the modern all-electric locomotive model “IVO 22” from Dotto, based in Castelfranco (Italy), which was presented for the first time in fall 2021 and has since been sold over 30 times to tourist destinations and leisure facilities worldwide. The associated “C98” type carriages (two per train) are equipped with glass windows for all weather conditions, the front and rear modules of which can be opened. They also feature a heating system, an electric door control and integrated audio systems for playing information via headphones in various languages. The trams can be easily connected to AC charging stations using a standard plug for electric cars (type 2 charging plug).
The two new panoramic trains can each take up to 54 people on a tour through the palace gardens of the former Habsburg summer residence. ■
