Vimmerby / Sweden: Astrid Lindgren’s World to Invest in New Theme Area
Sweden’s theme and theater park in Vimmerby has great plans for 2013. A completely new theme area dedicated to Astrid Lindgren’s books about Emil in Lönneberga and his adventures will be built on a 22,000 square meter large area and is scheduled to be open for the start of the 2013 season. It will be located on an area next to the park which has been acquired from the municipality for this purpose. Emil and his family, the farm Katthult and many other environments and people from the stories about Emil, which take place in the end of the 19th resp. at the beginning of the 20th century on the Småland countryside, will be part of the new area. The town setting, a play area and a new restaurant are also part of the 95 million SEK (about 10 million Euros) investments. According to Managing Director Mikael Ahlerup, this investment is the biggest one the park has ever made. The opening of the new Villekulla Cottage of Pippi Longstocking in 2009 (cf. EAP 5/2009) and Matt’s Fort in 2011 (cf. EAP 5/2011) were the last bigger projects of the park. (eap)
