Wet ‘n Wild Water Park Orlando Will Close Permanently by the End of 2016
On Wednesday, June 17, Universal Orlando announced the permanent closing of its Wet ‘n Wild water park on December 31, 2016. Since its opening in 1977, America’s first water park located on Orlando’s I-Drive has continuously worked on attraction innovations. According to a global report from the Themed Entertainment Association (TEA), Wet ‘n Wild was the 10th-busiest waterpark in the world in 2014 with a number of about 1.3 million guests. “We’re grateful to our countless fans and team members for making Wet ‘n Wild such a special place for so very long”, spokesman Tom Schroder wrote on the official Universal blog. Currently Universal Orlando is already working on the development of a new water park named Volcano Bay (cf. EAP news from June 4, 2015), which is expected to open in 2017. (eap)
