Winter 2006/2007: Stormy Weather Disrupts Construction
The relatively mild climate in Central Europe this past winter has been welcomed by the construction industry: It enabled building plans to be carried out through the winter almost without interruption. Any delays in construction work could be compensated for thanks to the mild weather. However, the weather also created some disruption: several heavy storms caused damage, some quite severe. At the Dutch theme park Toverland, the wooden rollercoaster “Troy”, still under construction, fell casualty to the storms. In early March, a short but severe storm ripped a section from the rollercoaster. The date of the planned opening, the end of June, will presumably have to be postponed. (eap)
