Year-round Skiing at White Deer Studio Amusement Park
(eap) At the latest since the 2022 Winter Olympics were awarded to and held in Beijing, the enthusiasm of the Chinese public for winter sports has grown. One of the most popular activities is skiing, which can be practiced in several large ski resorts in the “Middle Kingdom”. Central China is also home to mountain landscapes: In the region around Xi’An (capital of the central Chinese province of Shaanxi), for example, the high season for skiing is from December through February each year.
In order to extend this relatively short touristic time frame to all months of the year, White Deer Studio Amusement Park – a movie theme park with walk-through sets and various leisure activities on offer – decided to open a four-season ski resort with an artificial ski slope that can be used all year round. The project partner was the Italian company Neveplast, which specializes in such installations and has already completed numerous projects worldwide. A 150-metre-long and 42-metre-wide artificial slope was installed on a natural mountain slope, the infrastructure of which also includes its own conveyor belt. The slope at the recently opened facility can be used during the current natural snowfall as well as in warmer months, allowing year-round operation.
“With the aim of optimally utilizing our ski equipment rental and ski instructors and meeting the local demand for ski lessons, we have upgraded our slope to a year-round ski slope. [...] After installing the Neveplast slope, we have found that its performance exceeds our expectations, so we are [...] very pleased with our decision,” comments Li Longan, General Manager of White Deer Studio Park. The Bailuyuan Studios, where TV series such as “White Deer Plain” are produced, is also located right next to the ski slope. ■
