“Legend of the Seas” to Cruise the Ocean from Summer 2026

(eap) The Royal Caribbean cruise line company has unveiled the name of its third ship in the ICON class: “Legend of the Seas” will be the name of the floating hotel, which will make its maiden voyage in Europe in summer 2026 and then cruise the Caribbean from November. Following the example of the “Icon of the Seas” and the upcoming “Star of the Seas”, the ship will offer an extensive range of leisure attractions and activities including “the largest water park at sea” (read more about the attractions-line-up on the ICON of the Seas in our EAP news from 26 Jan 2024).

The water park will be called “Category 6” and, as on the two sister ships, will feature several water slides from Germany’s wiegand.waterrides. In addition, there will also be a “Crown’s Edge” skywalk with a high ropes course and a thrill ride, as well as a total of seven pools – including an infinity pool in the adults-only area “Hideaway”. “On the heels of celebrating one year of the record-breaking Icon Class and the memories made by vacationers of all ages on Icon, we are thrilled to announce the name of Royal Caribbean’s third Icon Class vacation. Legend of the Seas is the next bold step in this exciting era of vacations and the continuation of the Icon Class legacy, and we look forward to bringing the revolutionary lineup of experiences to more families and adventurers across Europe, the Caribbean and beyond,” Michael Bayley, President and CEO, Royal Caribbean International.

The Legend of the Seas is currently under construction at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland. A fourth ship of the ICON class has already been ordered there – last summer, Royal Caribbean announced a comprehensive expansion of its existing fleet of ships (c.f. EAP News of 28 Aug 2024). The Legend will be the cruise company’s fourth ship to be powered by liquefied natural gas. In addition, applications such as a waste heat recovery system to shore power connection are to be used. The company’s goal is to be able to introduce a net-zero cruise ship in terms of its carbon footprint by 2035. ■
