(eap) Tomorrow, the “Icon of the Seas”, the new luxury liner of the American cruise line Royal Caribbean International, will set sail for the first time. On January 10, 2024, the cruise ship arrived in PortMiami, where it was celebratory welcomed. The approx. 365-metre-long ship was built by the Finnish shipbuilding company MEYER TURKU (part of the German Meyer Group).

Holidaymakers will find a wide range of activities on 18 guest decks. These include the “largest water park at sea” with six slides from Wiegand.Waterrides, a water play park for children from zero to six years from Aquarena, a high ropes course from Walltopia and a carousel from Wooddesign Amusement Rides. From Miami, the Icon will set sail towards the Caribbean, where it will head to Royal Caribbean’s private island “Perfect Day at CocoCay” in the Bahamas. In addition to a water park with 13 slides (from WhiteWater) for thrill-seekers, there is also the new “Hideaway Beach” area, which is exclusively accessible to adults and will celebrate its debut with the first docking of the Icon in the coming days.

Two more Icon-class giga-liners are due to follow in the upcoming years. Further details about the Icon of the Seas can be found in our article “A New Era for Cruise Liners” in EAP 1/2023. ■
