4.5-Million Pound Investment for Redesign of Titanic Belfast Museum

Redesign work has been taking place at the iconic Titanic Belfast museum since January 2. On March 4, the exhibition will once again open its doors to guests, who can then look forward to four redesigned areas called “Never Again“, “Ballard‘s Quest“, “The Ship of Dreams“ and “The Lasting Legacy“ under the overall title “The Pursuit of Dreams“. Here, visitors can look forward not only to facts and details about the famous ship, but also to personal stories of the liner‘s passengers, who were accompanied by hopes and dreams of starting a new life in America, as well as glimpses into the lives of those who built the ill-fated ship in Belfast and those who found the wreck 111 years ago. The highlight of the new exhibit is a 7.6-meter-long scale model of the Titanic, which is equipped with LED lights that illuminate areas of particular interest on the liner. The ship was designed by the creative studio OPERA Amsterdam, for whom it is the largest model they have ever designed.

“She [the Titanic] is known as The Ship of Dreams and bringing this fabulous replica Titanic model to life through light and giving visitors the chance to immerse themselves in the dreams and stories of the passengers will be very powerful,” said Judith Owens MBE, Chief Executive.

Composer Stijn Hosman

In addition, music was composed specially for the museum‘s reopening by Dutchman Stijn Hosman. The sound interlude starts in the Never Again exhibition area and builds to the end, to The Ship of Dreams, where the music reaches its crescendo. A total of 4.5 million GBP (5.1 million EUR) was invested in the facelift by the Titanic Belfast Gallery Refreshment Fund. In the future, visitors will be able to relive the story of the Titanic and the people associated with it even better thanks to the new look. (eap)
