Abu Dhabi: Warner Bros. Theme Park Reportedly Under Construction
In 2007 Warner Bros. Entertainment, Abu Dhabi-based property developer Aldar Properties PJSC and the Abu Dhabi Media Company signed a deal to bring a Warner Bros. theme park to Abu Dhabi. Originally, the park was expected to open in 2011 (cf. EAP, issue 02/2009), which has never been implemented. However, according to an article published by the Arabian Business online magazine, the construction works have finally started. The magazine reports the park will include 19 different rides, a hotel and multiplex cinemas. “As has been previously announced, Warner Bros. plans to develop a theme park in Abu Dhabi. With our partners at Miral Asset Management, we have started initial development of the area on Abu Dhabi’s Yas Island and expect the project to be completed in 2018,” a Warner Bros. spokesman told Arabian Business. The signage around the construction site names AECOM’s Middle East division as consultants, Thinkwell as theme consultants, Louis Berger as project management consultants and Farah Leisure Parks Management as owner representatives and master developers for the project. Finally, NSCC International are reportedly engaged as general contractors. (eap)
