Anniversary of PortAventura – A Unique Destination Turns 30!
(eap) PortAventura World in Vila-seca (Tarragona province) is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. The destination, which today consists of three theme parks (including one water park) and six resort-integrated hotels, first opened its doors in 1995 and is now one of the most traditional and successful leisure centres in Spain, which is also an international benchmark for safe fun, unique experiences and sustainable management. PortAventura World has now kicked off its anniversary year with an official celebratory event – a special program for visitors is to follow, as are a number of new features.
These include a parade of redesigned floats, each dedicated to a different themed area of PortAventura Park (the oldest part of the resort, now complemented by the Caribe Aquatic Park and Ferrari Land). In the “Gran Teatro Imperial”, a new show entitled “Un viaje fascinante” (“A fascinating journey”) will celebrate its premiere, which is also dedicated to the different adventure worlds in the park. The “FiestAventura” show will be expanded to include the use of drones and the entire resort will be given a festive decoration to celebrate its 30th anniversary. The merchandising offer for guests will also be expanded to include a special anniversary collection and vintage items, and the park’s catering facilities will be providing a number of new offers.
Fernando Aldecoa, Managing Director of PortAventura World, is presenting the novelties for the 30th anniversary of PortAventura Resort. © PortAventura Resort “PortAventura World is not just a theme park resort, but a benchmark in the attractions industry and a driver of development for our region. Over the last 30 years, we have worked with passion and commitment to create unforgettable experiences and we continue to look to the future with the same enthusiasm that has characterised us from the beginning,” emphasises Fernando Aldecoa LLaurado, Managing Director of PortAventura World.
PortAventura World backs up these statements with figures: The destination provides around 24,000 direct and indirect jobs every year and contributes an average of 0.5 per cent to the economic growth of the autonomous region of Catalonia. In its three associated parks, the resort welcomes a total of several million guests each year. In addition to six resort-owned hotels, PortAventura operates a further four hotel complexes in Vila-seca and Salou under the “Ponient Hotels by PortAventura World” brand.
PortAventura is also constantly striving to set new standards in terms of sustainability and social responsibility. In 2023, the company received the internationally recognised B-Corp certificate from the B Lab organisation, which is awarded for special social and environmental contributions. Shortly afterwards, the resort put its own photovoltaic park into operation (c.f. EAP News of 26 July 2023). The related PortAventura Foundation manages the “Dreams Village” (amongst other projects), which opened in 2019 and is attached to the resort, offering families with seriously ill children a break from everyday life. This year’s anniversary of PortAventura World marks another milestone in the history of the popular Catalan leisure destination, which aims to continue offering unique experiences in the future. ■
