PortAventura World Inaugurates Photovoltaic Plant
(eap) Recently, PortAventura World in Spain inaugurated its new photovoltaic plant. Over 11,000 solar panels were mounted on the ground on a 6.4-hectare site. With a capacity of 6.05 MWp, it is expected to generate 10 GWh of electricity per year, equivalent to one third of PortAventura World’s consumption. More than EUR eight million have been invested in the installation of the solar plant, which was created in cooperation with the company Endesa X, a brand of the Spanish electricity company Endesa. In a second construction phase, additional solar modules are currently being built, which will have a capacity of 3.1 MWp to generate an additional 5.6 GWh per year. In addition, a new viewpoint and an educational centre are scheduled to open in September, where visitors will learn more about forms of renewable energy in a fun way.
Arturo Mas-Sardá, President of PortAventura World, stated that “the inauguration of PortAventura Solar is a major milestone in our company’s ESG [Environmental, Social & Governance] strategy, which we are constantly working on and is an absolute priority. Building the largest solar plant at a resort in Spain, and one of the largest of its kind in Europe, is a great success, both for us and for the sector, as it supports the idea that tourism can and should also be responsible towards the planet. It is about continuing to have a positive impact on the environment and acting as a lever for change in the business sector, in line with our commitment as a B Corp company”.

In April of this year, PortAventura World Parks and Resorts was recognized as a B-Corp company – firms can be recognized as B-Corp companies if they have a proven positive impact on society and the environment. Earlier this year, the destination also received an award for responsible and sustainable tourism at the international tourism trade fair FITUR (we reported here). ■
