(eap) On April 9, 1925, computer pioneer and founder of Nixdorf Computer AG Heinz Nixdorf (†) was born in Paderborn, North Rhine-Westphalia. To mark the 100th anniversary of his birth this year, the world’s largest computer museum, the Heinz Nixdorf MuseumsForum (HNF) in Paderborn, is dedicating its annual events program to the motto “Nixdorf100”. New exhibition areas, special events and activities will characterize the year 2025. The new exhibition area “Quantum computers – next-generation supercomputers” kicked off last Saturday. This is supposed to be the first presentation on the topic of quantum computing in a German museum.

“Are we at the dawn of a new information age? Will quantum computers replace our tried-and-tested digital computing machines as the new supercomputers?” asked HNF Managing Director Dr. Jochen Viehoff, formulating possible future developments at the presentation of the new part of the exhibition. “With this new section, we want to venture a look into the future of computers and present a technology that seems to contradict our previous experience,” said Viehoff, describing the revolutionary technology.

“This means we are on the verge of a new departure, just as Heinz Nixdorf dared to do in the 1950s in order to enter the age of electronics and computers. This is why the opening of the quantum computer area marks the beginning of the Nixdorf100 anniversary year.”

Further upcoming highlights include the revision of the museum’s presentation of Nixdorf’s company history, which will be opened on Heinz Nixdorf’s birthday, as well as the summer festival on July 6, when the city’s “Fürstenallee” and the “Zukunftsmeile” will be transformed into a festival mile. ■
