Congratulations: Karls Strawberry Farm Rövershagen Celebrates 30 Years!
(eap) 30 years ago, the at that time 22-year-old Robert Dahl opened his first strawberry farm in Rövershagen, Germany. Strawberry cultivation is a family business in this case. Already his grandfather grew the fruit and the idea for opening the strawberry farm came from Robert Dahl’s father Karl-Heinz Dahl (†). Since then, the tasty red fruits also grown near the Baltic Sea have enjoyed great popularity. Ten years later, in 2003, Robert Dahl expanded the offer in Rövershagen to a broadly spread farmers’ market. Only five years later, the expansion to an “adventure farm” or “adventure village” took place. Since then, one has been able to enjoy more than just delicious strawberries at Karls – the strawberry farm has developed into a popular destination for families, which offers a variety of family-friendly attractions and rides as well as F&B offers. The special thing about the Karls adventure villages is that guests don’t pay an entrance fee at Karls but can explore the lovingly designed strawberry farms free of charge. The attractions are then paid for individually, but not all are chargeable.
There are currently four adventure villages on the Baltic coast and one in Elstal near Berlin. In addition, four new locations are in the planning/building stage. These include one in Oberhausen (Ruhr area), in Döbeln in Saxony, in Plech in Upper Franconia and in Loxstedt in the district of Cuxhaven. This brings Robert Dahl a step closer to his vision – to offer every child in Germany the strawberry farm experience within a maximum distance of one and a half hours. In addition, a “Bibi & Tina” theme park is to be built next to Karls Erlebnis-Dorf in Elstal by 2024, which will be developed in cooperation between Karls and the Kiddinx publishing company. Karls is not only planning to expand throughout Germany – there are already plans for a possible Karls adventure village in Californian Oxnard, USA. ■
