Crystal Lagoons Breaks Own Guinness World Record
In 2007, Crystal Lagoons, a multinational company headquartered in Amsterdam, the Netherlands and known for the development of crystal clear lagoons in tourist destinations, set up a Guinness World Record for the “World’s Largest Manmade Crystal Clear Lagoon”. At that time, the eight-hectare San Alfonso del Mar crystal lagoon located in Chile was honored with a Guinness World Records entry. Recently, Crystal Lagoons could break its own record with a 12.5-hectare lagoon, which is part of the Sharm El Sheikh tourist development in Egypt. The five million Euro development project is the result of a joint venture between Crystal Lagoons and the Saudi Arabian Sharbatly investor family. Situated in a coastal area, more than twelve crystal lagoons total 100 hectares of crystal clear water (we reported in EAP, issue 6/2009).
Founded in 2007, Crystal Lagoons has realized more than 300 tourism projects in 60 countries to date. The company’s lagoons are suitable for swimming and water sports. As part of Crystal Lagoon’s current expansion the company has recently opened its first commercial office in Barcelona (Spain), led by Regional Director Sebastian Pillado. (eap)
