Disney’s Galactic Starcruiser Hotel to Become Imagineers Offices
(eap) The Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser hotel building at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida, which was closed permanently in fall 2023 after just 1.5 years of operation, is to be converted into an office building for Imagineers, Disney’s creative minds, planners and designers, as several US media are reporting this week.
The premises of the former hotel, which was based on an elaborate (and highly expansive) concept for an extraordinary, immersive Star Wars experience – for which Disney received a Thea Award in the “Outstanding Achievement in Brand Experience” category in 2022, among others – will therefore not serve to house any new visitor attractions.
As an office hub for Imagineers, the space will instead be used to advance expansion projects at Walt Disney World. Current projects include the development of the “Tropical Americas” themed area in Disney’s Animal Kingdom and the “Monsters, Inc.” land in Disney’s Hollywood Studios (c.f. EAP news of 12 Aug 2024). ■
