Efteling Over-Optimistic with “Flying Dutchman”

The 20 million euro expensive attraction was originally scheduled to open on Easter. After numerous rumours about further delays since then, the company’s headquarters have now definitely “grounded” the attraction for this year. Ronald van der Zijl, CEO of Efteling, explains: “In the form we’ve opted for, this attraction is unparalleled worldwide. During the test phase, however, we discovered that the transition from “riding” to “flying” during the start-up to the 45° steep hoist did not always function dependably and comfortably enough for passengers. Due to this, we have decided to look for another technical solution (…) and have decided against putting the “Flying Dutchman” into operation this year.” (eap)
