Electrifying Ride Fun on New Lightning Coaster at Furuvik
(eap) This past Saturday, the Furuvik amusement park in the Swedish municipality of Gävle (northeast of Stockholm) opened “Lightning”, a new rollercoaster that sends visitors on an “electrifying” ride. Announced last summer, the launch coaster was supplied by Dutch company Vekoma and accelerates the train from zero to 75 km/h in just three seconds right at the start of the ride. Another highlight of the ride: After the train enters the station again at the end of the first lap, passengers are accelerated again and sent on their journey a second time.
- Tallest point: 16.4 m
- Top speed: 75 km/h
- Acceleration: 2.8G
- Total length: 2 x 430 m (the coaster runs two laps)
- Capacity: 20 persons
- Manufacturer: Vekoma
- Height requirement: 100 cm (if accompanied by an adult), otherwise 120 cm
“We are thrilled to finally have this ride in place and ready for our guests, whom we have been eagerly anticipating. It’s incredibly exciting, and I’m confident it will be loved by both young and old. I’m personally super excited to experience it myself,” says Sandra Wilke, CEO at Furuvik. Peter Osbeck, Senior Ride Manager at Parks and Resorts Scandinavia, adds, “Lightning is a massive investment and without doubt the biggest attraction in Furuvik’s history. It’s really cool that Furuvik now has its own launch coaster; a gigantic roller coaster that takes off at the speed of lightning right from the start.” ■
