Europa-Park Mourns the Loss of Long-Time Employee Günther Stumpf †
(eap) The German Europa-Park theme park and its employees mourn the loss of one of their “master builders” from the very beginning, Günther Stumpf, who passed away on November 27 at the age of 85. As the nephew of Europa-Park founder Franz Mack, Stumpf began his work as a construction technician at the park back in 1978 and turned detailed drawings into reality. For a total of 40 years, Günther Stumpf was involved in the design of Europa-Park’s European themed areas as an authorized signatory and head of the construction department. It all began with the construction of the “Tyrolean Water Ride” in 1978. Also, he built the Italian village, the first European themed area at Europa-Park, in 1982. Together with set designer and film architect Ulrich Damrau, he created the European theme concept that still characterizes Europa-Park today. In 2018, Günther Stumpf was honoured together with his wife Josefine for 40 years of service and was surprised with a pedestrian bridge between the Swiss and French themed areas that was named after him. The “Passerelle Günther Stumpf” will always be a reminder of him and his humorous, down-to-earth and competent manner. ■
