Fire at Europa-Park – Regular Park Operations Resumed

(eap) Yesterday, a locally restricted fire broke out at the indoor attraction “Yomi Magic World of Diamonds” – a magical “mineral world underground” between the Austrian and Spanish themed areas of Europa-Park, which is extremely popular not only among children. The fire alarms automatically alerted the emergency services, which immediately arrived on the scene. Around 25,000 visitors were quickly and orderly evacuated from the park by staff. There were no injured people among the visitors. According to current knowledge, the fire had broken out in a technical room of the building. Investigations into the exact cause of the fire are ongoing.

“We’d like to sincerely thank all emergency personnel and employees for their great efforts! Also a big thank you to all Europa-Park friends for your good wishes and great sympathy,” the park says. The shock of the major fire that broke out in 2018 and destroyed the venerable “Pirates in Batavia” attraction was still all too present for the park management. The popular boat ride had been rebuilt with many new scenes and details and was reopend in summer 2020 (c.f. EAP 5/2020).

Today, Europa-Park takes up its regular operations for visitors again. The Yomis Magic World of Diamonds walkthrough as well as the rides leading through this indoor attraction, which are “Alpenexpress Enzian” (including “Coastiality”) and the “Tyrolean Wildwater Ride” will remain closed. So do the “Panoramabahn” and the nearby store “Bazar Español” for the time being. ■
