Fire at miramar Destroys Thermal Bath Area

The miramar Weinheim leisure pool, which was not affected by the fire, is expected to reopen this weekend.

(eap) Late on Sunday evening, a major fire broke out at miramar Weinheim, that destroyed parts of the facility completely.

After the regular closing of the facility in the evening, there were no more guests in the complex. Six employees are said to have noticed the fire and informed the fire department before the fire alarm system was triggered. A total of around 200 firefighters and other emergency organizations were involved in extinguishing the fire until early Monday morning. According to miramar press spokesperson Hardy Prothmann, the damage is estimated to be in the double-digit millions – the salt and crystal spa building was completely destroyed. Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing. Parts of the leisure pool, the changing rooms and the entrance area were also contaminated as a result of the fire, but the operators expect to be able to clear this up quickly. The current plan is to reopen the leisure pool (including water slides) and the sauna this weekend. ■
