GB: The Reel Store – Museum for Digital Art to Open in Coventry
In mid-May this year, a new museum for immersive and digital art called The Reel Store will be opened to the public in Coventry. As of 13 May, the new permanent exhibition, which will be housed in the former building of the Coventry Evening Telegraph newspaper, will showcase digital artwork on an exhibition space of 800 square meters – The Reel Store was created by the Coventry City of Culture Trust. The main exhibition space will guarantee a special art experience through a large projection screen with several video projectors and a sound system. The first major exhibition will be “Machine Memories: Space“ by new media artist Refik Anadol. For this, a 360-degree experience was created by AI (Artificial Intelligence) from thousands of photographs taken by NASA satellites, telescopes and the ISS, which will immerse visitors in the depths of the universe.
Martin Sutherland, Chief Executive of Coventry City of Culture Trust, comments: “The Reel Store is a hugely exciting venture, with Coventry becoming home to the UK’s only permanent truly immersive digital art gallery, a major draw for Coventrians and visitors. We are delighted that our partners have backed the vision for this permanent new visitor attraction, transforming old media into new media, as part of the legacy of our year as UK City of Culture.“ (eap)
