General Refurbishment of the Zeller Land Public Pool in Tendering Phase
(eap) After the Zeller Land public pool in Rhineland-Palatinate (Germany) was closed in May of this year with the aim of a general refurbishment, the municipality of Zell (Mosel) can now look forward to additional funding. In addition to the grant of six million euros from federal funds for the general refurbishment of the pool, the Secretary of State for Sport in Rhineland-Palatinate, Simone Schneider, presented an additional grant of 1.12 million euros from the sports facility funding program in June to support the refurbishment and construction of the outdoor pool and the outdoor area of the new pool. According to the financing plan, construction costs not covered by subsidies are to be covered by loans.
With an expected construction period of around three years, a sustainable and climate-friendly swimming and leisure facility is to be built at the same location. The plans include a 25-meter outdoor pool and a near-natural water play area for children. New sunbathing areas and a large terrace with seating are also planned. In future, the pool is to be operated with a river water heat pump in combination with a photovoltaic system.
“Swimming is far more than just a popular sport and an enjoyable leisure activity. It is a crucial skill that should be made accessible to as many people as possible and that serves to promote safety. Swimming also significantly promotes health in our society,” emphasized State Secretary Schneider during her visit. Mayor Jürgen Hoffmann, for his part, emphasized the importance of the adventure pool as the only public pool in the municipality of Zell: “This pool is particularly important for our children. Even in elementary school, all children in the municipality of Zell (Mosel) have swimming lessons and this must remain the case.” Hoffmann also sees the leisure destination as an important tourist highlight for the vacation region.
As the Zell public pool announced this week, the extensive dismantling and clearing work is already well advanced so that the first tenders can be issued. The Zell municipal administration is currently inviting tenders for the replacement construction of the new year-round pool and the renovation of the Zeller Land public pool. ■
