Germany: Berlin to Get a “This is Germany” Flight Simulator Attraction

"This is Germany" will be the first flying theater attraction by the City Leisure Group on German soil.

Under the name Fürst, a new, modern mixed-use complex is currently being built on Kurfürstendamm on the site of the former Kudamm-Karree in western Berlin, which will offer around 47,000 square meter of office space (including co-working spaces) and around 12,000 square meters of retail space when completed from 2024. The CELLS Property Investors GmbH is responsible for the development of the mixed-use complex, which was designed by the architectural firm of Kleihues + Kleihues. This company has been developing, realizing and managing nationwide and international residential and commercial properties for over 20 years. In addition to a boutique hotel, a kindergarten, a gym, a Berlin Museum with a nuclear fallout shelter, a food market, a fine dining hotel, a supermarket, a theater, dining options and a parking garage, the complex will also include an entertainment area that will offer a “This is Germany” flight simulator attraction.

The ride, which will be the first installation of such a flying theater ride implemented by the City Leisure Group (CLG) in Germany, is being modeled after “This is Holland” in Amsterdam, where an i-Ride from Brogent Technologies was installed and the Leisure Expert Group was responsible for the attraction design (cf. EAP 2/2018). The 5D adventure takes guests on a virtual flight over Germany, with up to 40 passengers per flight spread across three floors. Special effects such as vibration, wind and scent round off the experience. The 5D attraction will be housed in a 2,300-square-meter space at the Fürst, for which CLG recently signed a lease agreement with Luxembourg-based Aggregate Holdings. The attraction is expected to generate around 500,000 additional visitors per year.

“With Fürst, we are very pleased to have found an ideal location in Germany for our internationally successful concept. As a capital steeped in history, Berlin fascinates visitors from all over the world. This unique real estate project, with its unparalleled mix of offerings, and the prominent location directly on the famous Kurfürstendamm boulevard excited us. I am very much looking forward to our incredible joint venture and to creating a mega attraction for Berlin. By 2024, we also want to expand to Vienna, Gdansk and Singapore,” adds Magnus Magnusson, CEO of City Leisure Group. (eap)
