Germany: Speed Rush Through Snow & Ice – Maurer Rides Presents New Spike® Design Concept

With the “Spike^® Snow Coaster“, the Munich-based manufacturer Maurer Rides launches a new design concept for roller coaster fun in ski and winter holiday regions. In order to take up the theme of snow and ice authentically, the cars of the Spike Coaster are themed like a motorised snowmobile. “Spike^®“ is Maurer’s patented drive system, that allows guests to regulate their speed (up to 80 km/h) by themselves. After leaving the station, riders can enjoy a non-inverted loop and numerous airtime hills during the 45-second ride – the highest point of the ride is 22 metres. A thrill highlight on the 550-metre-long track is that the vehicle does not seem to manage a high hill at the first attempt and “slides“ down backwards before accelerating a second time to get over the crest – for this effect, the spike system uses recuperation, which uses stored braking energy for acceleration on the track.
