Germany/Netherlands: Wiegand.Waterrides Takes over Van Egdom’s Range of Products
The German water slide and attraction manufacturer Wiegand.Waterrides, which is especially known for its durable slide types made of stainless steel (check out our latest issue’s cover story about the new “Big Bang” indoor half pipe at Therme Erding), takes over the products of the Dutch company Van Egdom Recreatietechniek B.V., which recently had to announce its insolvency. The versatile Van Egdom portfolio includes proven water play equipment and slide models made of glass-fiber reinforced plastic (GRP), which will be manufactured at Wiegand.Waterrides’ production facility in the future. Among others, the “Cyclone” funnel slide model, white water river concepts, the “Cone” raft slide model and water play structures with towers and various slides will be taken over. There will be intensive dialogues with Van Egdom employees, the German company says.
“The classic models and latest products and the expertise in the European market with consideration of all applicable EU standards convinced us. We have been very strong in stainless steel water slides for 40 years and started building GRP models 15 years ago. We are excited to combine Van Egdom’s long experience with our own to significantly strengthen our portfolio in this market area. Van Egdom customers can rely on us,” says Hendrik Wiegand, owner of Wiegand.Waterrides and of sister company Josef Wiegand (“Wiegand Slides”), the portfolio of which includes attractions such as the CoasterKart, summer toboggan rides and the “WIE-Flyer”.
Van Egdom Recreatietechniek was founded in 1965 as a family business. Initially, it offered filter systems for pools. When Berend Klaassens bought the company in 1977, the market demand for water slides was just increasing. The supplier realized its first slide project at Sporthuis Centrum – today CenterParcs Het Meerdal – a 35-meter-long attraction. Since then, 7,500 projects have been implemented in 55 countries. As part of the Wiegand.Waterrides product family, the Van Egdom slide types will now also be available in combination with Wiegand’s theming services, sound, gaming and LED effects or, for example, the “Wie-Glow©” black light technology.
