Gröna Lund Reopens After Tragic Roller Coaster Accident

(eap) The tragic roller coaster accident on 25 June at the Swedish amusement park Gröna Lund in Stockholm shook the amusement park industry last week. Since the accident, in which one person died, the park remained closed for the time being. In lieu of normal park operations, Gröna Lund focused on providing support to victims, relatives and employees in addition to investigating the accident. A crisis line was set up for those affected and their families, and the work of the police and the Swedish Accident Investigation Authority was supported in their investigations. On Monday, 3 July, the theme park opened its gates (without park operations) to provide space for mourning. The park reopened for visitors on Wednesday, 5 July.

Gröna Lund CEO Jan Eriksson explained that in addition to its own safety checks, with the help of an external, independent inspection company further inspections had been carried out at 17 of the park’s attractions. Visitors should be able to trust that the park has done everything it can to make their stay safe. Gröna Lund is ready to welcome its visitors back to the park, Eriksson said. ■
